The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) requirement has been postponed to May 2025, when approximately 1.4 billion people will be required to have special authorization to enter 30 countries in Europe.

Under ETIAS, travelers will undergo security screenings before they arrive in select European countries to “identify security, irregular migration or high epidemic risks posed by visa-exempt visitors.”

The fee for ETIAS is approximately $7.50 and free for those under age 18 or over 70. Once the security check is completed and approved, the travel authorization will be valid for three consecutive years. The ETIAS document is only good for short-term stays of 90 days or less within any 180-day period. It is not a work visa.

The ETIAS information will be linked to a traveler’s passport, so for passports that have been replaced, lost or stolen, a new ETIAS travel authorization will be required. To learn more about ETIAS, visit the European Union website here.
