Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection program designed to expedite customs clearance for preapproved and low-risk travelers entering the U.S. As one of five Trusted Traveler Programs, it aims to maintain appropriate security standards while streamlining the international border-crossing process.
Upon arrival to the U.S., Global Entry members can bypass long queues and proceed directly to baggage claim by scanning their machine-readable passports and fingerprints at designated kiosks at more than 75 participating airports and completing a customs declaration form.
Additionally, U.S. citizens with Global Entry can enjoy expedited entry into:
- Australia: Global Entry members can use SmartGate kiosks featuring facial recognition and electronic passport technology at 10 Australian airports. A visa is required for entry.
- New Zealand: Expedited processing lines are available at Auckland (AKL), Wellington (WLG) and Christchurch (CHC) airports. Travelers must present their Global Entry card, U.S. passport and arrival documentation.
- Mexico: Members can use automated kiosks at Cancun (CUN), Mexico City (MEX) and Los Cabos (SJD) international airports.
While Global Entry primarily serves U.S. citizens, international agreement allows citizens from 21 eligible partner countries to apply for Global Entry, see below:

The application process for these countries mirrors that of U.S. travelers. You must apply online, pay a non-refundable application fee and complete an in-person interview upon conditional approval.
Interviews can often be conducted through the Enrollment on Arrival program when entering the U.S., where you must bring your passport and photo ID showing your correct residential address to interview.
A five-year Global Entry membership costs $120 and includes TSA PreCheck, providing expedited security screening at U.S. airports. For more information or to apply for Global Entry, visit the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website here.
