# What Cvent Connect 2026 Taught Me About the Future of Meetings & Events

August 25, 2026 9:00 AM

I recently attended Cvent Connect 2026, where conversations around AI, attendee engagement and the evolving role of event professionals offered a glimpse into where the meetings and events industry is headed.

While there was plenty of discussion about new technology and what is coming next, one message stood out to me more than anything else: technology is changing how we work, but it is also creating an opportunity for event professionals to bring even more strategic value to their clients.

![Image from iOS (1)](https://blog.atlastravel.com/hs-fs/hubfs/AT%20Blog_The%20Compass/2026%20Images/8.2026%20Blog%20Images/Image%20from%20iOS%20(1).jpg?width=4500&height=3000&name=Image%20from%20iOS%20(1).jpg)

The Role of the Event Partner Is Evolving

One of my biggest takeaways from Cvent Connect was the importance of moving beyond just managing event details to becoming an advisor clients can trust to help them navigate the bigger picture.

As events become increasingly complex and expectations continue to evolve, clients will look to their event partners for expertise, strategic guidance and creative thinking. The value is no longer just in executing an event successfully, it's in helping clients make better decisions throughout the process.

That means knowing what you are good at, continuing to build your expertise and finding ways to bring that knowledge to the client relationship.  Specialization, industry certifications and subject matter expertise can all help event professionals become known for something meaningful.

The Attendee Experience Starts Before the Event

One area where bigger-picture thinking is especially important is the attendee experience. Often, it doesn't just start when the event begins, but rather with the communications and interactions leading up to the event.

Ultimately, this means thinking beyond the event itself and considering the entire attendee engagement. One way to support this is through a mobile app or digital attendee hub, which allows attendees to explore content and connect with the event early through personalized, interactive features and gamification.

In fact, personalization is necessary to create a better attendee experience. Registration and engagement data can help planners understand who is attending and what they are interested in, allowing content, communications and engagement opportunities to become more relevant to different audiences.

AI Is Becoming an Assistant, Not a Replacement

It was impossible to attend Cvent Connect without hearing a lot about AI, but what I found most interesting was how practical many of its applications are, particularly in handling administrative tasks that can consume a lot of time.

For example, if someone can no longer attend an event, an AI assistant can cancel the registration, remove their booked room and process any applicable refunds, all from a single instruction, rather than requiring someone to manually complete each step individually.

There are also opportunities for AI to support sourcing and RFPs, organize information, identify trends and turn raw data into polished proposals. Predictive data can help planners better understand potential hotel costs, while AI can help make feasibility information more visual and easier to present to leadership.

Responsible AI Adoption Matters

With all the excitement around AI, I appreciated that there was also a strong focus on governance and responsible use. AI should add value while maintaining human oversight, privacy protections and thoughtful processes.

As event professionals, we work with a significant amount of client and attendee information, so understanding how it's being used is critical. Organizations need clear guidelines around AI, and event partners should align with their clients on privacy policies and practices before using AI with client or attendee information.

It is also important to have a strong process in place before introducing AI. Documenting workflows and understanding how work is currently being done makes it easier to identify where AI can genuinely assist and where human involvement is still essential.

Our Value Is Not Going Away, It Is Evolving

What I came away with from Cvent Connect is that AI is not making the role of the event professional less valuable. If anything, it is allowing us to redefine where our value comes from.

AI can organize information, automate repetitive tasks and help surface insights. It cannot replace the relationships we build with clients and suppliers, the judgment that comes from experience or the creativity required to turn a client's objectives into a standout event.

The future of the industry is not about choosing between technology and human expertise. It is about using technology to give people more time to be human. That is exactly what we are doing at Atlas Travel. We’ve incorporated new technology and AI into our business, while maintaining the personalized service that we’ve always been known for.

When AI can make the operational side more efficient, it gives event professionals more time to focus on the parts of the job that require experience, creativity, judgment and relationship-building. Those are the things that ultimately make a difference to our clients and help make their event successful.
